The farms that belong to KSG Agro agricultural holding completed harvesting almost half of the sunflower fields, which amounted to about 7 thousand hectares. They also started sowing winter crops: wheat and rapeseed. This was reported by the press service of the holding.

The sunflower harvesting campaign is in full swing with the planned schedule and due to finish approximately on October 5 this year. At present, about 43% of the sunflower fields have been harvested, which amounted to almost 7 thousand hectares (16 450 ha were sown with sunflower seeds).

The yield, according to preliminary estimates, is 15-21 centner / ha and varies depending on the location of the holdings’ farms. For example, the Solonyansky and Sofievsky districts of the Dnipropetrovsk region have shown yields of 18-21 centners per hectare, because these areas boast of a more fertile black soil. The Apostolovo district’s climate is more arid and yields are therefore lower.

“High sunflower margins make this crop a real hit among agricultural producers,” says Sergey Kasyanov, chairman of KSG Agro’s Board of Directors. “However, as in everything, the sense of proportion and the principle of business diversification is important here. It’s no secret that excessive emphasis on sunflower alone leads to increased stress for the soil, its impoverishment due to the same type of moisture depletion. That is why it is necessary to diversify the crop, for example, with corn. After all, this crop has a more sparing effect on the fertility of the soil”.

In addition, the holding company farms are sowing winter rapeseed, treating it at the same time parallel with plant protection products. At the moment, 4,000 hectares of the planned 4,600 ha are sown. Additionally, the sowing of winter wheat began. This crop is planned for 6,200 hectares.
